Communication Alert: Agency Closure Procedures

January 20, 2026
important
Team,

As winter weather conditions approach the San Antonio and Bexar County area, now is the time to review our Agency Closure Procedures. Supervisors are asked to ensure that all staff members are familiar with these procedures. In the event of emergency weather conditions, the following procedures will apply. The decision to close Parent/Child Incorporated (PCI) will be made by the CEO, Dr. Sharon Small. Dr. Small will assess conditions and consider actions taken by the local school districts, particularly the Northside Independent School District, to determine whether agency closure is necessary.
If closure is deemed in the agency's best interest, Dr. Small will communicate the decision to the Executive Team. The Communications Director, Constance Murphy, will then disseminate the information to KSAT 12 News and utilize PCI’s notification system and social media to inform parents and staff of the closure. Updates will also be posted via email, on PCI’s website (www.parentchildinc.com), and on our Facebook page. Department Supervisors will also disseminate that information to their staff.

Once the closure decision is announced, the Head Start/Early Head Start Operations Coordinator, Candace Collins, will relay the information to the appropriate staff, including Education Center Coordinators (ECCs). ECCs will then notify the center staff. ECCs and Family Service Workers will also be responsible for directly informing parents and guardians. Supervisors, please verify that all contact information for parents, guardians, and staff is up to date and accessible. We encourage families and staff to check your local news starting at 5:00 a.m. for closure updates. PCI will schedule makeup days for any closures. Parents should have emergency plans in place for closures, delayed starts, or early dismissals of Early Learning Centers.
